So much for prep – a Khornehusker report

Another two month hiatus.  It is a perpetual goal of mine to blog regularly, but when life gets busy this is one thing that gets put aside.  Although adding another child to the family probably counts as a good excuse for not having much time to blog.  Anyway, in my last blog post I established about a two month window to paint my army up and have it ready for the Khornehusker RTT that took place this past weekend.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to keep to that schedule with work, Ellie’s arrival, and other things eating up my time.  Fortunately, I had built in a week to work on the display board.  I was able to take the hit and just use my generic display board from my fantasy army instead and help distribute the work load from the two weeks I lost when Ellie was born.

July was the month of 40k

Well, I’m not quite to the point of posting at least once a week like I had hoped, but now the gap was only like two weeks instead of a month between posts.  I have been busy diving head first into my Imperial Fists army.  I finished my first tactical squad, including their guns.  I really, really enjoy the old mark armor that forgeworld has been releasing.  As I talked about in the last post, the Game Shoppe put on a Kill Team tournament this past week.  I decided this would be an excuse to paint up some models that wouldn’t necessarily be functional in my larger army, but look cool nonetheless.

Regiment of Renown and Kill Team

About three weeks ago, debate nationals concluded and I flew home from Birmingham.  I was working on my Imperial Fists one day, when I realized that I didn’t have anything pressing to worry about in real life for several weeks.  Then it hit me: this is the first summer that I don’t have grad school to worry about in three years!  This was officially going to be a good summer for hobby progress!  My last post certainly indicated as much, with several major projects in the works.  That being said, I think we all realize that it is very easy to start projects, and it is even easier to have half-completed projects collect dust on the shelf than actually finish them.  But before I get to those projects (and I have made good progress!), I want to talk about something that came out of left field and was a present surprise:

Actual hobby progress: my 30k army

With the Bugeater GT done, I’ve actually been able to  do some hobby work.  I always rotate between completing  fantasy army and a 40k army.  Partially that’s to keep things fresh, but that’s also because I mentally see-saw back and forth between the two game systems.  Right now I’m on a major 40k kick after the amazing time I had with the 40k team tournament at Adepticon.  I have loved the Horus Heresy books since they first started coming out years ago, and after some other local guys starting building their own Heresy era army, I knew I had to as well.

Bugeater 2013 is done! Follow up and thoughts

At the start of the month we held the third annual Bugeater GT at Millard West High School.  It was another successful year overall, raising thousands for the debate team while at the same time allowing gamers to have a great weekend.  In an effort to kick start my blogging and get my posts up I wanted to share my thoughts on the tournament: what our goals were, what went well, what we could have done better, etc.
